I brush my pet often, why is he matted?

Matting is caused by a number of reasons.

• Improper brushing: There is a right way and a wrong way to brush certain types of coats, as well as the correct tools to use. Most effective tools can only be used by professional groomers, since improper use can result in you injuring or hurting your dog. Most breeds require professional grooming at least twice a month.
• Bathing: If you bathe your pet at home, no matter what product you use, if the hair is not completely combed out before and after bathing, any matts or tangles can be worsened by the wet/dry process.
• Shedding: “Non-shedding” breeds such as poodles and shi-tzus really do shed, however, the dead hair gets tangled with their coat, and if not brushed out regularly, it will eventually form knots.

I don’t want my pet shaved, can’t the matts be brushed out?

Depending on severity of matting, in some cases the only humane thing to do is to clip the coat close. Your groomer will try to leave the coat as long as possible, but if the matts are very tight and stuck to the skin, shaving may be the only option. Remember, it grows back, and your pet will feel if better!

Why does my dog shake his head after grooming?

As part of the grooming process we clean the ears and cut the hair from the ear opening (unless the owner asks us not to do so) to allow air to flow more freely into the ear to keep it dry. After cleaning and removal of the ear hair, the dog sometimes has a tickling sensation and shaking his head is the dog’s way of responding to the tickle. If we notice a ear infection, you will be informed by our team after which you can consult your vet.

Is it true that dogs can get ear infections from water entering their ear canals during bathing?

Water in a dog’s ear canal can predispose it to infection. This is why we place cotton balls in the ear openings prior to bathing to block water from entering the ear, and then remove the cotton and clean the ears following the bath. However, most ear infections in dogs are caused from issues having nothing to do with water exposure during grooming. Floppy-eared dogs tend to have more ear problems than upright-eared dogs because air exchange is restricted by their ear flaps and an unhealthy amount of humidity will result which can create an environment for infection.

Can you do anything about what appears to be dandruff on my pet?

In most cases , there’s an underlying cause for dandruff such as diet or a skin disorder for which you should see your veterinarian for a course of treatment. Subsequently we can bathe your dog with the shampoos prescribed by your vet.

Can I stay in while my pet is being groomed?

We prefer if the owner doesn't stay in the salon during the grooming. This is because most pets tend to get excited and move a lot when “mom” or “dad” stays. As soon as you walk out the door, your pet will most likely relax and let the groomer do her job and the grooming will get done without delay. But if you'd like to wait in, we do have a waiting area where you can wait.

What if I’m unhappy with the grooming?

If you are dissatisfied for any reason, by all means please do inform us. Pet grooming is not an exact science- There may be a reason your pet’s haircut is not how you wanted. Perhaps your pet was moving a lot or we could have misunderstood the brief given by you. We do our level best to make sure that every dog gets a perfect groom. We are very open to feedback back from all our clients.

Will my pet feel better after a bath if he is unwell ?

Please do not send your pet for a grooming if he or she is unwell or just recovering from an illness . Dogs don’t feel “fresh” after a bath if they are unwell. It’s very important to get a go ahead from the vet before making a grooming appointment and if there are any medical concerns please let us know in advance.

Should I feed my dog his meal before sending him to the salon ?

Make sure you keep a gap of at least an hour between his meal time and grooming. This is because giving a bath straight after a meal isn’t good for digestion.
